Welcome to Guns Up Labradors

Guns Up Labradors is a small hobby kennel on 5 acres in Snohomish, Washington.  We are Labrador Retriever enthusiasts who’ve been active in the breed for close to 25 years.  Our goal is to produce Labradors that demonstrate beauty, talent, and a desire to perform in multiple venues.

Above all, we strive to breed dogs that are structurally and genetically sound, exhibit the true Labrador Retriever temperament, conform to the breed standard, are devoted “household” companions, and are capable of performing in the field as steady and reliable gun dogs.

Our dogs share our home, are trained for hunt test competition, (owner trained and handled), and used as gun dogs for upland and water fowl hunting.  Their pedigrees are from all or part conformation (show) lines.  We believe with early training and exposure to birds, the natural retriever hunting drive and instinct can be cultivated in any type of Labrador.

In recent years, we’ve expanded into the Conformation and Obedience rings in order to produce All Around Labradors.

As part of our commitment to the Labrador Retriever breed, and the sport of hunt tests, we are long time members of:

  • Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association (PSLRA)
  • Rainier Hunting Retriever Club (RHRC)
  • The Labrador Retriever Club (LRC).

Our breeding program focuses on Black and Yellow puppies only.  We do not produce Chocolate Labradors.

We also rarely breed, approximately every 5 years, and only when we want to add a new dog or dogs to our family.  We are mostly performance people who have few dogs.  We spend a lot of time training and competing, so we keep a limited number of dogs as we like them to be house dogs/family members.  Upon retirement, our performance dogs stay with us and remain part of our family.

Please Note:  We also DO NOT breed Silver, Charcoal or Champagne Dilute Retrievers.  These colors are the result of the introduction of the dilute gene.  This gene is not natural in the Labrador Retriever breed.  These “colors” are a disqualification based on the published AKC and LRC’s breed standard.

Please visit our “Designer Dogs Page” for more information about the Dilute gene, as well as other Designer breeds.
